THREE men appeared in court for contravening the Parks and Wildlife Act after they were allegedly found in possession of a pangolin valued at US$3 000.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) , said: “Sometime between 15 April 2024 to 30 April 2024, Derrick Ndlovu who is still at large brought home a pangolin. He showed Dimbwani Muleya (37) and they started looking for buyers. On 14 May the Police received a tip-off on the matter and they arranged to meet with Muleya . Derrick Ndlovu took the first accused person to his grandmother’s field where the pangolin was hidden. Julia Ndlovu (23) brought Morris Mhlanga (41) who was going to transport them to the meeting point using his Nissan AD Van.”

The accused persons met with the Police who were disguised as potential buyers at Makhado Ranch turn off, Beitbridge.

“The first and second accused person got into the buyer’s vehicle. They negotiated and agreed to sell the pangolin at USD3 000”, said the NPAZ

The buyer signalled the reaction team, leading to the arrest of the accused persons.

“Derrick Ndlovu fled from the scene and is yet to be arrested. The matter was remanded to 30 May 2024”, said the NPAZ.
