THREE months after their wedding, things got bad for a young couple from Montrose suburb in Bulawayo as the wife would strangle her husband, pull and twist his private parts whenever they argued.
Polite Tsvangirai is not a happy man and he told the court that his wife, Tobokamwene nee Ncube, was a cheeky and violent woman.
“Three months after our wedding things turned bad. Whenever we argued she would fume at me and insult me saying I’m not man enough. At times when we are involved in a fierce argument, she strangles me and grabs my balls before pulling and twisting them. At one point my balls got swollen. I have scars on the neck,” Tsvangirai told the court.

In her defence, Tabokamwene said: “I had to grab and twist his balls in self-defence because we were fighting. Moreover, he has a problem of informing his parents about each and every problem we encounter in our marriage.”
Tsvangirai also said he was living in fear as his wife always threatened to kill him.
“I feel my life is in danger because whenever she is very angry, she would threaten to kill me,” he stated.
Tabokamwene said what could be causing the rift in their marriage could be their problematic sex life.

“Our sex life is boring. When he is in the mood and while I’m not in the mood, I compromise to make him happy. But when he is not in the mood to sleep with me while I’m in the mood, he refuses to have sex with me,” she revealed.
The magistrate noted that there was no peace in their marriage and granted the couple a reciprocal protection order.
The order prescribes that the pair should leave in peace. And they should not verbally, sexually and physically abuse each other. The order is valid for five years.
