Three young boxers – Julaykah Balakazi, Sean Pambeni, and Mqheli Moyo – are set to represent Zimbabwe at the International Boxing Association (IBA) 2024 Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva, Montenegro, from October 21 to November 4.
This prestigious event attracts young male and female boxers from around the globe, providing a vital platform for emerging talent to flourish.
Balakazi, from Harare, expressed pride in representing Zimbabwe, vowing to bring home gold medals.
Pambeni from Victoria Falls added, “We are honoured to represent Zimbabwe and will not disappoint.”
Moyo from Hwange expressed gratitude for their coaches’ support, saying they are ready for the challenge.
National boxing youth coach Mphilis Moyo expressed confidence that the trio was well-prepared and ready, having trained rigorously since the start of the month.
Victoria Falls Boxing Academy’s head coach Tobia Mupfuti said they had anticipated sending at least 10 boxers before funding constraints forced them to trim the team to three boxers and two coaches.
The IBA Youth World Boxing Championships previously attracted around 600 young athletes in 2022, marking a significant opportunity for the next generation of elite boxers.
