THE OK Grand Challenge at Borrowdale Park will see all the 16 runners taking to the field as there were no scratchings after the final acceptances.
The grade two race will be run over 1 800metres this afternoon with a full field of 16 runners. Varnica and Tulip Way, from the Debra Swanson yard, will not be part of the field as they remain reserves.
Stake money for the race will be US$70 000 after it was increased from US$50 000 last year, making the OK Grand Challenge the country’s richest race.
There will be seven races lined up on the day with the first race taking off at 10:45am while the main race is at 2:50pm.
Trainer Debra Swanson has the highest number of runners after she brought in six runners for the Grade One race.
The Swanson yard will have Dindingwe as the favorite after she ran second to Ideal View in the 2023 Castle Tankard. She went down by a quarter of a length, conceding three kgs.
Jacky Sparrow of the Debra Swanson stable headed the OK opening betting, after she won the Fillies Classic.
The filly Jacky Sparrow has won five of her six starts and it’s not her fault that she has lacked opportunities to shine. The OK Grand Challenge will be no exception.
Also in the race is Lily Blue who will have trusted lieutenant Wes Mason on the irons. The six-year-old mare is in good form carrying 56.5kgs. Lily Blue was 3.60 lengths behind the 2023 Tankard winner.
