MEMBERS of the public have welcomed the Government’s move to lift facial masks’ restrictions in public only for people fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
Government relaxed the measures following a sharp decline in Covid-19 infections and deaths countrywide.
Fully vaccinated people are those who received the third jab.
Those who have been given the greenlight not to wear masks are required to carry the vaccination card all the time as proof.
Some people, who spoke to H-Metro, believe that relaxing restrictions on the wearing of face masks was long overdue.
Tendai Chimunya welcomed the decision saying wearing a mask makes it difficult for her to breath, as she is asthmatic.
“I received two jabs and I am hoping to receive my third injection anytime soon,” she said.
For some, wearing face masks has become a habit they cannot easily let go.
Nigel Kasima from Ruwa received the third booster jab, but said he will continue to mask up.
“I have been wearing my mask and will continue to do so.
“I will only drop it when I am outdoors and places with proper ventilation.”
Zimbabwe has witnessed a gradual decline in Covid-19 cases and deaths since the beginning of the year.
As of August 21, the country recorded four new cases and no deaths.
To date, a total of 6 401 018 people have been vaccinated against the pandemic.
