BULAWAYO Chiefs will have a completely new team this season but they will not be short of the much-needed experience.
The club has acquired the services of veteran midfielder Xolisani Moyo, returnee Lucky Ndlela, and striker Bukhosi Sibanda.
Moyo has vast experience in the local league having played for the likes of Bulawayo City, Ngezi Platinum, and Green Fuel.
Ndlela joined Triangle at the beginning of last season but has traced his way back home to Bulawayo Chiefs after Triangle got relegated. Former Highlanders and Bantu Rovers striker Bukhosi Sibanda is joining from Green Fuel.
Bulawayo Chiefs coach Thulani Sibanda says the trio are key incomings in his re-build exercise.
“We have a new side and we needed experienced players. The trio have shown the zeal to work hard for the team and that is what we need right now. The major task we have right now is coming up with combinations. We are hopeful that we will find the right formula soon. I am happy with how we have prepared for the season. We still have several areas to polish but we are happy with the progress we have made so far,” said Sibanda.
In this window, Bulawayo Chiefs lost the services of their captain Malvin Mkolo, creative midfielder Mthokozisi Msebe, and attacker Billy Veremu to Simba Bhora.
Some of the players that also left the Chiefs camp are veteran Danny Phiri, Kim Joe Sibanda, and Mandlenkosi Gasela among others.
The ambitious Amakhosi Amahle managed to retain enterprising right back Malvern Hativagoni and Panashe Shoko.
Hativagoni made his debut for the Chiefs last season in their goalless draw against ZPC Kariba in August last year.
The then 20-year-old Hativagoni had to wait a long time to make an impression on the club’s first team and it was a memorable outing and will be hoping to replicate his form going into the 2024 season.
The previous season saw Amakhosi Amahle secure the 13th spot on the log table, a position they aim to improve upon despite financial hurdles faced in recent years, including player strikes over unpaid salaries.
The club’s leadership expresses unwavering confidence in Sibanda’s ability to lead the team to success both on and off the field.
