BULAWAYO Chiefs have sparked excitement among fans with the announcement of Thulani “Thuts” Sibanda’s return as the head coach for the upcoming 2024 football season.
The decision comes after the club chose not to renew the contract of Johanisi Nhumwa, which ended on December 31, 2023.
Sibanda, a coach with a Caf A Diploma, is no stranger to the Chiefs, having previously led the team to significant achievements and demonstrating a deep understanding of the club’s ethos.
Before his return, Sibanda experienced a challenging stint at Triangle United, departing four games before the season’s end due to unmet expectations, which ultimately saw the team’s relegation.
Despite these setbacks, Sibanda’s bond with the Chiefs remains unbroken, as evidenced by his repeated comebacks to the team he first brought into the top-flight league in 2018.
“Bulawayo Chiefs is pleased to announce the re-appointment of Thulani Sibanda (Caf A Diploma) to the position of Senior Team Head Coach with immediate effect. After a thorough search and consideration, it became clear that there is no other coach who embodies the Bulawayo Chiefs DNA more than Thulani Sibanda.
“Sibanda previously served as the head coach of our senior team and led the club to great success. His understanding of the club’s culture, values and vision make him the perfect candidate to lead our team once again,” read a statement from Bulawayo Chiefs Secretary-General, Dumisani Mantula Sibanda.
The previous season saw Amakhosi Amahle secure the 13th spot on the log table, a position they aim to improve upon despite financial hurdles faced in recent years, including player strikes over unpaid salaries. The club’s leadership expresses unwavering confidence in Sibanda’s ability to lead the team to success both on and off the field.
“We are confident that with Thulani Sibanda at the helm, Bulawayo Chiefs FC will continue to strive for excellence and achieve our goals on and off the field,” read the statement.
As anticipation builds for the new season, the Bulawayo Chiefs are diligently assembling a robust technical staff to support Sibanda’s vision of a united and victorious squad.
