Tia basks in SA glory

South Africa-based musician Portia “Tia” Njazi is basking in the glory of successful performances at two recent fashion shows across the Limpopo River.
The musician, who performed at Soweto Fashion Show and House of Jade Annual Fashion show, said she is on a mission to take her music regionally.The “Boy You Got to Know” hitmaker says she has strategically settled in South Africa where she is pursuing music full-time and doing collaborations with popular artistes.

She said working in SA would help her connect with international stars easily. At Soweto Fashion Show, the musician reportedly put up a good act.

“My aim is to reach the regional market in the near future while going international is the larger dream,” she said.

“When I performed at Soweto Theatre at their fashion week, my first single ‘Gimme Love’ seemed to be a favourite with the audience as it has a house feel to it. They cheered as I did some South African influenced dance moves which they could relate to and probably found intriguing as they had been informed I wasn’t local.”

Tia said her other recent performance at the House of Jade Annual Fashion show was an eye-opener. “The show was good. Although they did not know me, audiences loved my music and cheered me instantly. Afterwards they would ask for copies of my CD and they said my sound was international they loved my voice.

“Also performing was Cleo Ice Queen (former Big Brother Africa contestant) while other celebrities who also came were Channel O presenter and former Big Brother Africa housemate Weza Solange, South Africa Big brother 2014 winner Mandla and contestant Lexi.

“This was quite an exciting and eye opening experience for me. The crowd was very responsive, so I loved interacting with them.”

Tia said she is working on a new album that would be released before the end of the year. She has so far released two singles that are being played on some radio stations in SA. “The singles, ‘Gimme Love’ and ‘Forget the Bills’ are being played on various radio stations here and I am working on another single that will be out this month. The singles would be part of my album that I will release in the last quarter of the year.”

The musician did a few shows back home last year before returning to SA where she is working with an events management team that has nurtured popular celebrities. Tia said she will return home for some shows in October when she will bring her music to her local fans.

“Home is best and I will always put my home fans first. I am just here to network and make use of the good studios for my songs and videos. I will obviously return home and work with fellow artistes in Zimbabwe.”
