Tight at the top in NRSL

BLACK RHINOS coach Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera says the top brand of football being displayed by his charges is being helped, in a large part, by the immaculate surface at Heart Stadium B-Arena.

The Northern Region Soccer League contenders are currently using the Yadah FC training facility as their home ground.

And they have turned it into a fortress, making life for their opponents unbearable, with their fluidity.

The army team reduced the gap between them and leaders Harare City to just one point, after beating Zambezi 3-1 at the same venue on Wednesday.

Rhinos are joint second with MWOS, a point behind unbeaten leaders Harare City who are on 24 points from 10 matches.

Everson Feremba got a brace for the soldiers before Kudakwashe Nyakudanga sealed the points for the home team.

That was their fourth successive victory at the Heart B-Arena following wins over Chinhoyi Stars (1-0), Karoi United (1-0) and Cranborne Bullets (2-0).

Only Ngezi Platinum U-19 managed to get a point against Chauya Chipembere when forcing a goalless stalemate in the second of the 10-week-old season.

“My team is made up of top-quality players who want to pass the ball around. It is our style of play and we always win whenever we are playing at an ideal venue,” said Saruchera.

“That is what the Heart Stadium B-Arena offers us. It is a very good pitch and it makes our life very easy. I also guess that even our opponents find it very easy to play when they are at Heart B-Arena.

“We are a team that thrives more when keeping possession. Our game is characterised by passing and building play from the back.

“So generally, that is why we always do very well when playing at home. Right from the goalkeeping department, the defence, midfield, and strike-force, the team always passes the ball around and our home ground gives us that freedom to do that.

“We are banking on this venue because we usually suffocate the opponents here and we are enjoying it.”

Saruchera said the league is proving to be very competitive but he aimed to help Chauya Chipembere bounce back into the Premier Soccer League at the first time of asking.

“We are only in the first third of the marathon but I tell you the competition is massive. There are no easy games in this league,” added Saruchera.

“All teams are very strong and you ought to be at your best but we need to take each game as it comes and see where we will be at the end of the marathon.”
