MULTI-award winning hip hop artiste, Cassper Nyovest is expected in the country tomorrow ahead of his debut Bulawayo show slated for Hartsfield Rugby grounds. The rapper, who has been sceptical about performing in Zimbabwe following threats to disrupt and boycott his show due to the ongoing xenophobic attacks on Zimbabweans and other African nationals in South Africa, is expected to touch down at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Airport at midday tomorrow.
The Phumakim’ hit-maker confirmed through a video that he would be travelling to Bulawayo for the show, despite the threats which had forced his mother to discourage him from performing here. Instead of cancelling the show, Nyovest has communicated that he wants to use the show as a tool to fight xenophobia and will donate all proceeds to those who have been affected by the violence.
Top local acts, Winky D, DJ Stavo, Cal_Vin and Djembe Monks will perform with the South African rapper.
Show promoters, Chipaz, Dee Nosh Inc and 3D Events assured fans that the show would go on as planned.
“The show is now more about passing a strong message of denouncing xenophobia. Cassper and our local artistes have been tasked to come up with a song that denounces xenophobia that’ll be performed at the show,” one of the organisers — DJ Dee Nosh said.
“This show is about uniting Zimbabweans and South Africans in denouncing these heinous acts that don’t bring progress on the African continent.”
He said any rowdy behaviour would be dealt with as soldiers and riot police have been roped in to maintain order and ensure the safety of fans attending the show.
“There’ll be a heavy police presence at the venue to ensure the safety of Cassper’s fans before, during and after the show,” said Dee Nosh.
He said tickets to the show would only be available tomorrow at the Hartsfield Rugby Ground gates.
“There will be three entrances to cater for VVIP, VIP and normal ticket holders to ease congestion at the gates. Those who’ll drive to the venue will have to park their cars outside the venue to ease congestion inside the venue,” said Dee Nosh.
He said those who wanted to get up close and personal with Nyovest as well as the local artistes needed to purchase VVIP tickets as they would wine and dine with fans there.
Meanwhile, Cal_Vin, who recently collaborated with Nyovest for a remix of his hit track – Zikhupan, said he was ready to share the stage with his South African idol. Cal_Vin is also expected to release the remix today on social media networking sites – Facebook and Twitter.
