A POTENTIAL health time bomb is ticking at Chengetanai Old People’s Home due to the unavailability of water.
The institution is home to 38 elderly people.
Administrator of the institution, Lucky Nyanda, said the situation was desperate.
“We have gone three weeks without water, and a health hazard is looming,” said Nyanda.
He said all efforts to seek a temporary solution have been helpless.
“I would appreciate any help that might help prevent this potential health time bomb.”
Chinhoyi Municipality’s public relations department, in a notice to residents, said the situation was compounded by the unavailability of spare parts to complete the maintenance of a major pump.
“Pursuant to our notice of September 6 2022, we would like to inform our residents, and stakeholders, that we received part of the spares required to complete the repair of the breakdown pump.
“We still await the other part, which we look forward to receiving in the coming week,” read the council notice.
A local businessman, Archibald Nyazamba, who has been assisting the old people’s home, said it was important for residents, and the corporate world, to find ways to solve the water problem at Chengetanai.
“This issue of water needs a holistic approach.
“The corporate world must come on board and help in finding solutions to the water crisis at Chengetanai,” said Nyazamba.
