FORMER How Mine and Zim Leopards striker, Tinashe Makanda has signed for South Africa’s National First Division side, Stellenbosch FC and made his first appearance on Wednesday in a 1-0 victory over Highlands Park.
He came in as a substitute in the 75th minute for goal scorer, Iqraam Rayners.
Makanda signed before the close of the mid-season transfer window on 31 January but only received his work permit on Monday and was immediately thrown into the fray.
The move was facilitated by Russell Louise of Players Hub Management although it expires in June although there is an option for renewal if he impresses.
Louise said Makanda is settling in well and looking forward to extending his stay at the Stuart Barker-coached side.
“It is a great opportunity for him as this six month period will enable him to showcase his talent and prove he is worthy of a longer stay at the club.
“After featuring in the Nedbank Cup victory over Highlands Park, he is expected to make cut in Sunday’s league fixture against Ubuntu,” he said.
Makanda proved his prowess in How Mine colours last year as he made his presence felt upfront with assists and pulling goals at crucial juncture.
He was instrumental in the team’s run in the Chibuku Cup, scoring a brace against Shabanie Mine in the semifinal of tournament ensuring How Mine reach the final, which they however lost to Harare City.
He cut his teeth at Zim Leopards and moved to How Mine in 2016.
With Stellenbosch drawn to play against Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup, Makanda is certain to relish the opportunity to turn out against one of South Africa’s biggest teams and showcase his abilities.-@rasmthembo
