TEN models on Saturday locked horns in a battle to represent Zimbabwe at the Miss Africa Unite international pageant which is set to be held in Botswana on November 29.

The national competition was held in Gweru and Tinevimbo Charmaine Murerabvudzi emerged victorious.

The third-year Development studies student at Lupane State University expressed her happiness to Chronicle Showbiz.

“Representing my country in Botswana means a lot to me, l hope l will inspire someone somewhere as well. I will put on my best so as to raise the country’s flag high and pave a way for myself to be recognized in international domains. The happiness is very overwhelming l can’t lie, it feels so great to hold such a title, it motivates me and gives me courage.

“l always say this “every new day is an opportunity for you to bring the better version of you, the far we go in our imaginations gives us hope and the efforts we put changes a thing” but this time l really see the power of it. I am a girl of integrity and generosity, vocal, a liberalist who is ready to fight for the recognition of models in the arts industry and am a motivated person and l love learning from others,” she said.

Tinevimbo said she started modeling in 2019.

“My journey as a model started in 2019 when l competed at high school. I stopped for some time during the pandemic, in 2021 November l competed for Miss Orient Zimbabwe l became the Second princess. In 2022 April l competed for Miss Supra-Eminence and l was one of the finalists, that same month l competed for Miss Lupane State University and l was crowned the second princess. And now I have been crowned Miss Africa Unite Zimbabwe,” said Tinevimbo.

In a separate interview National Director of Miss Africa Unite Zimbabwe, Reginald Muguto said the goal of the pageant is to bring together African women to share cultural practices.

“Miss Africa Unite was founded in Botswana and this year is the first year it is being held. Its goal is to bring together young and ambitious ladies from all over the continent to share their cultural practices thus promoting globalization.

“We are hosting the national pageant on Saturday in Gweru where we will select one delegate to represent the country at the international competition,” he said.

Muguto said a total of 10 models competed at the national level.

“A total of 10 models competed and the queen Tinevimbo will represent Zimbabwe at the International level in Botswana. From the day she is crowned until November 20, we will be working with her preparing her for the international pageant.

“For the international pageant there will be activities where contestants will be asked to wear their national costumes and these outfits are supposed to symbolize their countries and cultures,” Muguto said.

He said the effort will be put to bring the crown home.
