While his hometown of Durban battles devastating floods, South African entertainer DJ Tira will be hoping to brew a storm of his own this Friday in Bulawayo where he is expected to unleash new sensation, Tipcee, when he performs at Club Connect on Friday night.AA A
With Babes Wodumo largely hailed as the Queen of Gqom, the South African house music sub-genre that has swept through Durbanas dance floors and flooded playlists even overseas, Tipcee has been touted as the next big thing.
The twoas styles are largely similar, with Tipcee exhibiting the sort of nimble footedness that endeared Babes Wodumo to fans before she even sang a note. Like Babes, Tipcee is not a traditional vocalist, relying on catchy and provocative chants that have dominated most Durban-made house tunes over the last decade.
After Babesa lively appearance at Club Connect last month, Tipcee will hope to bring the same level of excitement to the joint when she makes her debut at the joint alongside her boss on Friday night.
With a feature on Distuction Boyzas smash hit Madness and her own song, Isicathulo, dominating the charts, Tipcee has already been touted as the princess of Gqom.
In a recent interview with Channel O, Tipcee revealed that although she was now making headway in the music industry, the journey towards stardom had been a long one.
a?I started in 2009 when I was still under 745 where I was part of a four-girl group. We were four hot girls. I hustled and hustled until now when I met with Tira. I actually met Tira a long time ago but he only saw the potential in me now. I guess it was down to my luck,a? she said.
She went on to disclose the secret behind the success of Durban music.
a?Itas the vibe that we have when we are in studio. Itas just fun,a? she said.
