Dynamos moved to the top of the log on Sunday following their 4-1 victory over Shabanie Mine at Rufaro Stadium and enjoy a two-point lead over their longtime rivals Highlanders who succumbed to their first defeat of the season at the hands of Monomotapa.
Bosso lost 0-3 in a match played on Saturday at Rufaro Stadium.
Dynamos have amassed 55 points compared to Highlanders’ 53 from 24 games while Monomotapa sit on third position with 43 points and six matches left before the season ends.
The league’s board member competitions, Tawengwa Hara and Kennedy Ndebele said matches involving Dynamos and Highlanders would be played concurrently after Week 26.
They said they have to factor in the issue of stadia and broadcasting of matches before making a decision to have matches played on a same day.
“It is too early to have the games played on a same day and time because it is not yet crystal clear as to who is vying for the championship. I believe it will be clear after three rounds.
“As it is, we have three teams that is Dynamos, Highlanders and Monomotapa vying for the championship while more than 60 percent of the teams we have are still fighting relegation. As the battle hots up and having assessed thoroughly the stadia issue, then we will have games played on the same day,” said Ndebele.
There were some disgruntled Highlanders followers who took to the social network to question the wisdom of having their team play Monomotapa 24 hours before Dynamos played host to Shabanie Mine.
Ndebele said Dynamos and Monomotapa registered Rufaro Stadium as their home ground and since they were both at home, Monomotapa had to play on Saturday because that was their preferred day for their home encounters.
Harare City who are eighth on the log with 32 points, occasionally uses Rufaro if the above teams are not at home. They are not safe from relegation and their other preferred venue for their home encounters in Gwanzura which they share with Blue Rangers.
“The concerns you are raising about matches being played concurrently are vital and in the spirit of Fair Play, we have to have championship and relegation games played on the same day. However, this is not possible in our country because we do not have enough facilities.
“We also have to consider that Supersport will also want to beam the matches live so there is a lot at play here,” said Hara.
Ndebele revealed that Supersport had notified them that they want to broadcast three matches this weekend meaning that there will be games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
On the issue of stadia, PSL should prioritise the championship issue involving Dynamos, Highlanders and Monomotapa.
Dynamos can stick to their preferred Rufaro hunting ground and they can play Monomotapa at Gwanzura, National Sports Stadium, Motor Action Sports Club or Lafarge in the event that they are at home at the same time.
Dynamos are left with an away game to Hwange followed by an epic Battle of Zimbabwe Part Two against Highlanders at Rufaro Stadium, face Black Mambas away at Rufaro followed by another away to Monomotapa before playing host to Buffaloes.
DeMbare’s last match of the season is an away game against Hardbody in Gweru.
As for Highlanders, they are left with three home games that is against Black Mambas, Buffaloes (Week 27) and Week 29 when they face FC Platinum.
Bosso will travel to Dynamos, Hardbody in Gweru and their last game of the season to Blue Rangers.
Monomotapa who have an outside chance of claiming the title provided that Dynamos and Highlanders fall along the way are left with Caps United (away), Black Mambas (home), Gunners (away), Dynamos (home), Harare City (away), and Buffaloes (home).
