LEADING retailer TM Pick n Pay says the decision to go to bed with the domestic Premiership has boosted their Big Brands Bargain Bonanza Promotion which comes to a close at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday.Zimbabwe football giants Dynamos and Highlanders will battle for the TM Pick n Pay Challenge Cup at the giant stadium with the winners taking home US$60 000 while the losing team will pocket a cool US$50 000.

The TM Pick n Pay Challenge Cup marks the retail giant’s first association with domestic football and it has triggered a wave speculation that this could be the beginning of a lengthy association between the two parties.

The company’s head of buying, Jealous Kondo, said the incorporation of a football tournament had been a big boost to their promotion.

“The timing of this Pick n Pay Challenge is coming at a time when the TM Pick n Pay brand is on the rise,” said Kondo, who also revealed that their promotion has seen a rise in sales and turnover.

“The other biggest difference that we have made this year is the staging of a match which will be between Dynamos and Highlanders. (This) has driven both our sales and escalated the brand TM Pick n Pay to new levels that we are going to celebrate this Saturday.

“We are quite grateful for the support that we have got from the league, the guidance that they have shown us, especially from the background where we are coming, we are retailers, we don’t know much about football.

“I can tell you that we have managed to get a lot of support from the league and its management committee and again we are very grateful for that.”

Kondo said he was hopeful that their relationship with football won’t be a one-off affair.

“We are looking forward to cementing this relationship and hope to meet again in future to celebrate closure or conclusion of our future promotions.”

PSL vice-chairman, Peter Dube, believes the entrance of TM Pick n Pay into their team of sponsors was a huge vote of confidence in the top-flight league.

“As the PSL we feel very much honoured to get yet another corporate body that has seen it fit to partner us in the game of football by way of accepting us as part of their promotional activities,” Dube said.

“It’s our hope and wish to facilitate an incident-free event that will leave no doubt in TM Pick n Pay endeavours to make this a long-term partnership. It’s our wish not only to have a successful promotion for TM Pick n Pay Bargain Bonanza but also that we have a memorable football game not only for our fans, who are our major stakeholders, but also for the partners of TM Pick n Pay as well.

“For TM Pick n Pay to have come to a stage whereby at the launch of this promotion, they have selected football as their partner, we feel it only gives us a challenge to look at ourselves and say what is it that we can do so that this marriage remains long lasting.”
