Tobacco exports rake in US$130m

Belgium, United Arab Emirates, China and Sudan are some of the countries in the top five.

South Africa bought 10 million kg at average price of US$2,94 per kg, Belgium bought 4 million kg valued at US$20 million at an average price of US$4,95 per kg, United Arab Emirates bought 3,1 million kg worth US$7,3 million at an average price of USS$2,33 per kg.

China imported 2,1 million kg of tobacco worth US$17,6 at an average price of US$8,35 per kg while Sudan bought 1,7 million kg worth US$6,3 million at an average price of US$3,61 per kg.

Japan has always offered the highest price buying the crop at US$10,03 per kg. Other countries offering favourable prices are India, US$8,86 per kg; Malawi, US$8 per kg; Hungary US$7,42 per kg and Taiwan US$7,31 per kg.
