WITH the tobacco marketing season in full swing, the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) has assured the crop’s growers and other stakeholders of the adequate supply of hessian wrapping packs to meet current demand.
Hessian packs are woven fabric that can be used for tobacco wrapping when the crop is being taken to the auction floors.
In a statement this morning, TIMB said the standard and recommended hessian packs are being supplied by a local company – Propak.
“Propak, the licensed supplier of hessian for the 2024/25 tobacco season, wishes to assure all stakeholders, especially tobacco growers, that there is no shortage of hessian wraps. Propak has confirmed that there is adequate supply to meet the current seasonal demand, despite this being the peak of the marketing season. A temporary strain on availability was noted due to increased demand, but this is expected to normalise by the end of the week,” reads part of the statement.
The hessian packs, TIMB added, will be distributed seamlessly.
TIMB said returns of the hessian packs from growers for recycling are expected in the next weeks and this will help in further stabilising the situation.
“All bona fide tobacco growers can purchase the hessian at the following prices: old hessian wraps at US$2,80 per wrap; new hessian wraps at US$3,30 per wrap. For further information or assistance, growers are encouraged to contact Propak by calling Mr Collins Muchenje on +263 77 104 9777,” said TIMB.
