Dancehall musician and yesterday’s man of the moment Tocky Vibes will strive to prove that he is not over the hill tonight when he performs in Chegutu at Chegutu Arms alongside Peter Moyo.
The “Mhai” hit maker had yet another bad outing at the Castle Tankard held at Borrowdale Race Course recently when the crowd proved hostile. After a meteoric rise to fame, the young chanter seems to have hit a rough patch with many wondering if he can ever rise above the apparent lack of chemistry with audiences at live shows.
The musician’s manager Elvis Bokosha believes his charge is still a force to reckon with and will be on top of his game as he proves a point to his fans and the whole nation.
“As you have seen we have taken a different approach. Our album is completely different from our previous songs and it needs a different approach altogether,” said Bokosha.
He said Tocky will be performing songs from the album “Toti Toti” and some of his singles that made a household name for him.
“We have adopted a new concept where we perform all the songs. He has been performing songs from the new album only but now all our fans are catered for,” he said.
“We are prepared for the show and fans should look forward to it,” he said. The album got a warm welcome with critics stating that the musician has matured though some dancehall fans have slammed him for abandoning riddims on the album.
On the other hand Moyo’s camp said they were looking forward to a good day in office as they were sharing stage with one of the most celebrated dancehall musicians. Moyo’s manager Sukol Dube said they retain high respect for Tocky.
“It is good for us to share stage with musicians like Tocky Vibes because it gives us some lessons. He has stage experience as he has performed in different countries,” said Dube.
A point to ponder for Tocky and his team is that even if they manage to charm the Chegutu crowd tonight, that will not necessarily translate into a rousing welcome for the chanter next time he must face the more finicky Harare crowds.
