Tocky Vibes on stage ‘a big yawn’

FANS of Zimdancehall artiste Tocky Vibes (Obey Makamure) say he still has a lot of work to do to improve his stage performance which they say is his big let down.

The fans said as expected, Tockey failed to deliver at his show in Bulawayo on Saturday night.

The Mhai hit maker performed at Royal Hotel Gardens in front of a sizeable crowd at a show that also featured Seunononga hit maker Guspy Warrior.

During the show Tocky would have his back to the fans facing the band. He was good at singing but his dancing is still poor.

Although this time Tocky Vibes was not pelted off stage for his below par performance, fans were not happy.

Some fans said he should take a leaf from his more illustrious counterparts Winky D, Souljah Love, Shinsoman and Sniper Storm.

“I admit he has lyrical creativity but his stage performance is way below par. How can someone perform and half the time he is looking at his band and has his back turned on his fans. When he looks at us he can’t even dance. He should work on his stage performances,” said Aston Hurungwe of Lobengula West.

Another fan said he was disappointed at how Tocky Vibes performed although he loved his music.

“I’m very disappointed at this young man because his songs have meaning and are uplifting. I came here to watch him for the first time and on stage he has to do something about his performance, that’s where he is lacking. If he can improve that he will be among the best Zimdancehall artistes,” said Bradley Dube.

In response Tocky Vibes said when fans see him turn to his band he would be trying to find out if they were in sync with him.

“On stage I’ll be controlling two things the band and the crowd. When I turn to my band I want to hear if what the fans will be hearing is good and in sync. When I face the crowd I’ll be interacting with them by making them sing along to my tunes” said Tocky Vibes.

He said his music was not as upbeat as his fellow Zimdancehall artistes and he performs differently for each song.

Guspy warrior closed the show with a highly energetic performance. The crowd was already tired as it was after 2AM when he got on stage.
