Toendepi only managed to win one match out of the three they played in the qualifiers but their neighbours Toendipi B remain in the hunt for a place in the semi-finals as they still have to face Saruwe in a quarter-final replay. The two teams were deadlocked 1-1 after their first clash. The winner between Toendepi B and Mupfure College will face Chikwangwadza who have already booked their semi-final slot.
Murambe and Dombwe are the other semi-finalists and they will battle for the final slot at Gadzema Business Centre.
There is also competition for honours in netball where Charamba B will face Chirinhengo at Gadzema as well and they will be looking forward to booking a place in the final.
The other semi-final will see Saruwe women coming face to face with Kaguvi at Club Wamica.
The Chegutu East Constituency Independence Cup is an annual soccer and netball event staged by 14 political districts since last year and is held as part of commemorations to mark Independence Day on April 18.
This year’s finals will be staged at Murambe School where the majority of the people in the constituency are expected to converge.
Last year the winning teams walked away with floating trophies, soccer and netball kits and cash prizes amounting to US$1 500 each.
The competitions were sponsored by the House of Assembly Member for Chegutu East and Minister of Media Information and Publicity Webster Shamu, INNSCOR Africa and Haddon Motors.
