“We shall deepen dialogue to such an extent that everyone will be free to air their opinion although with a precise objective,” Ahoomey-Zunu said during his swearing in speech that was delivered in the presence of his predecessor Gilbert Houngbo who resigned on July 11.
“I want to urge all Togolese people to understand that beyond our differences, we have a common destiny and we should therefore work to develop our country for the interest of all, ensure security for all and make Togo to be a country that is envied,” he said.
Appointed prime minister on July 19, Ahoomey-Zunu is expected to form a government whose work has already been outlined by president Faure Gnassingbe.
The president had indicated that the government will have to work based on four pillars which include deepening democratic dialogue, respect for principles of good governance, promotion of a peaceful international society and protection of the people against insecurity as well as economic development.
The new prime minister came at a time which is characterised by political tension due to the differences between the government and the opposition parties over the process of organising the 2012 legislative and local elections. — Xinhua.
