Toilet Etiquette: Why write on toilet walls?

I travel a lot doing seminars in schools. From these visits there is something I am seeing: Toilet Graffiti. This has encouraged me to write this article.

I observed that most students use their waste and markers to write on the walls. Surely using your waste! Messages range from, Jah love, Rugby gangsters, Lunatics, Chibaba cha2023 and vulgar language.

In some cases, names of teachers are written. This is not good .

Here are lessons to assist you on how to use the toilet

ν Use toilet paper that’s soft to avoid injuring yourself. Always go to the toilet with a tissue or a paper. Some students don’t carry anything when going to the toilet and end up messing their pants after coming out of the toilet.

You end up being smelly the whole day. This again is a bad habit.

ν Avoid pee splash. When you sit down, positioning yourself correctly over the loo will help pee go where it should.

If you stand up to pee, avoiding splashback is all about the angle.

Stand as close as possible and aim carefully.

Don’t mess the chamber. If you mess the  toilet clean it before you leave.

ν Don’t forget to flush. This is an obvious one, but it can be easy to forget to flush if you’re in a hurry. Make it a point that you don’t leave the toilet without flushing.

ν If you are using a Blair toilet, don’t do number two anywhere else. Kindly use the hole.

Correctly position yourself and do your business.

ν Write  bathroom rules on the wall. This might assist to keep the toilet clean.

ν Don’t urinate in the sink or on the bathing floor, when you are bathing, Remember others will use the same bathroom that you urinate on every day. Stop this habit. Use the chamber first before bathing.

ν Focus on the core business only when you go to the toilet. It’s either you are in the toilet for number one or two and nothing else.

After finishing the core business wash your hands and return to class.

ν If you also want to do number two always sit on the chamber. Don’t squat on top of the chamber.

ν Stop vandalising the toilet chamber. Students open the chamber tank and vandalise it.

Others steal items from the tank. This again is bad. The toilets end up not flushing because of this.

If the toilets are not flushing use water in the drums or buckets.

Don’t just do your number two and leave.

ν Don’t go to the toilet if you don’t have  any business with the toilet. Students just love to accompany others to the toilet.

This is a bad habit.
