TOMCAT Racing want to continue from where they left, when horse racing returns, at Borrowdale Park and Racecourse, this Sunday.
The new Borrowdale Park yard was easing into stride, when Covid-19 struck.
Trainer Thomas Mason is extremely upbeat, about the new racing season, which gets underway, this weekend.
Despite the lengthy lockdowns, and without race meetings for months, the stable has brought on board new owners, and things are shaping up.
The coming on board of Michael de Haast, through the International Racing Club (IRC), and Craig Dankwerts, will see a partnership in a two-year-old Vercingetorix filly, Evocative, out of the Fantastic Light mare, Especially (IRE) — being part of the formidable E-family, which includes Elusive Fort and Empress Club.
Dankwerts has been racing at Borrowdale Park for many years, and he will also be supporting Tomcat Racing, with three colts.
Sibongile Moyo, who gets top marks for enthusiasm, is not a new owner, having had shares in Tomcat Racing runners, before.
Two of her horses, True Beauty and Diesel ‘n Dust, are to join the Tomcat team. Mason, who started the Tomcat stable from scratch in 2019, was born into racing.
His mother, Anna Mason, trained in Denmark and Kenya.
He began his racing career in Zimbabwe with the late Murray Lindley, and joined Kirk Swanson’s yard in 2005, becoming an assistant trainer in 2009.
He has an eye for a good horse, having been influential in the acquisition of several local stars such as Cape Cod, Haga Haga, In The Mood, and Heir Line.
