VETERAN sports administrator Tommy Sithole was yesterday honoured by the Korean Ambassador to Zimbabwe for his appointment as the World Taekwendo vice president.
The appointment is widely regarded as a recognition of Sithole’s lifetime commitment to advancing sports and humanitarian causes.
South Korean Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Jae Kyung Park said the appointment is a proud moment for Zimbabwe and Taekwendo.
“Mr Sithole’s appointment marks a proud moment for Zimbabwe and Taekwondo, and strengthens cooperation between Zimbabwe and Korea in the field of Taekwondo.
“Taekwondo is more than a sport, it’s a platform for character building, discipline, and mutual respect, serving as a bridge between our two countries,” said Park. The embassy pledged its continued support to working with the Zimbabwe Taekwendo Association to grow the sport. “The embassy remains committed to working with the Zimbabwe Taekwondo Association to expand inclusive and sustainable Taekwondo cooperation. “Taekwondo teaches values like respect, perseverance, and responsibility that resonate across cultures and societies, making it a natural bridge between Zimbabwe and Korea,” said Park.
Chairman for Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sports Farai Jere said the appointment of Sithole is another milestone.
“This is a proud moment for Zimbabwe, showcasing our nation’s excellence in international sports,” said Jere. “This achievement highlights Mr Sithole’s dedication to Taekwondo and his commitment to promoting sports as a tool for unity and development.”
