Tongai Moyo’s commemorative gigs begin today with several artists lined up for the shows. The first show that will be held in the late musician’s home town Kwekwe at Mbizo Stadium and will feature his son Peter “Young Igwe”, Shinsoman, Extra Kwazvose, Killer T, Irene Tigere, and Slizer. On Saturday Tryson Chimbetu will join these other artistes for the commemoration in Kadoma at Odessy Hotel.
On Sunday Charma Girl, Alick Macheso and Zoey join all these other artistes for a show in the Harare Gardens.
The Young Igwe’s manager Sukol Dube said their fans will be in for an early treat as they will release their DVD in the morning.
“We have done a lot on the DVD that will be released this morning before we move to the shows that begins in the night in Kwekwe,” he said. Dube said they are expecting a number of people to come for the shows.
Biggie Chinoperekwei of Devine Assignments who are putting up the Harare show together said all is now in place for the show.
“Preparations are done and we are expecting a number of people to come for the two events slated for Harare Gardens,” said Chinoperekwei.
Moyo died on October 15 2011 and was buried in his rural home at Sesombe in Zhombe.
Slizer’s Zimbabwean manager Gift Petro said besides the business motive of her trips to the country, the musician was happy to be here because of the reception she gets from her fans.
“She is in love with Zimbabwe. She is happy to perform here and she has been talking about this DVD launch for a long time,” said Petro.
