GYMNASTICS Zimbabwe have named a 30-member squad to represent the country at the Zone VI/ Region 5 Championship to be held in Namibia in December.
The championship has been set for December 8 to 14 in Walvis Bay.

The gymnasts will be competing in Artistic, Rhythmic, Aerobics, and Trampoline.

Angola, Congo, Lesotho, Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe and the hosts Namibia are the countries who have confirmed their participation at the tournament.

Gymnastics Zimbabwe vice-president Chris Muchatuta announced the team yesterday and noted that the number of participants has been reduced this year due to financial constraints.

“This year’s team is smaller than usual due to the large cost of travelling to Walvis Bay and that a number of our gymnasts are this year writing O’ Level and A Level exams.

“Some have left for university and are focusing on their academics.

“This may have a negative effect on this year’s team results. We are hoping to perform well and we are confident that this year’s young but capable team will bring back some excellent results.

“The team has only just been announced so we are still busy booking transport to Namibia and the gymnasts, in the meantime, continue to train with their various coaches in the clubs around the country to ensure that will be ready,” said Muchatuta.
