The rehabilitation of Tongogara to Chachacha Road in Shurugwi North has started, with Bulawayo-based contractor, Master Specialist, set to complete the initial 2km by next month.

The road will link two fast growing growth points namely Tongogara and Chachacha and is expected to lure investors.

Tongogara RDC chief executive Mr Brian Rufasha, in an interview, said the two growth points were the main business centres in rural Shurugwi hence road infrastructure rehabilitation was very critical.

“We have contracted a Bulawayo based company, Master Specialist Construction Company which has begun the tarring of the initial 2km out of the total 17km. The tarring of the 2km will cost of $280 000,” he said.

Mr Rufasha said the whole project will take time to complete because the rural authority is currently facing financial challenges.

“Completion of the project will take longer because we rely on our coffers and some funds from Zinara. This year we were allocated $500 000 though we have not yet received the money in total,” he said.

He said the local authority is also rehabilitating other roads in the district.

“We have also gravelled Matambe-Hanke road at a cost of $78 000. This road is critical as it links schools and health centres in the district. We have also rehabilitated Sherekete- Magumise road at a cost of $54 000. The rehabilitation was imminent as we are now approaching the rainy season where some road was distracted in the last season,” said Mr Rufasha.

He said the rural authority also spruced up roads at Tongogara growth point in line with the transformation agenda.
