Tony D breaks silence

LOVE ballads specialist and Mutare-based dancehall artiste Robert Tondoya, popularly known in the music circles as Tony D, marked his return to the Zim dancehall music scene by releasing two singles titled “Kana Wandida” and “Stamina”.

The prolific songwriter, whose lyrics are inspired by personal experiences, last released hits “Chamupidigori” and “Gogogoi” in August last year.

Tony D’s sidekick and musician, Yung Pee, features on all tracks and were produced by Dr Clarence.

The potential hits were yesterday (Thursday) expected to be officially launched at popular leisure centre Club Mandisa.

In an interview, the Gweru-born artiste and qualified civil engineer said he bowed down to pressure from his legion of fans who were demanding for new music.

“It was long overdue. I could not starve my fans anymore. ‘Kana Wandida’ is a love song and is dedicated to all young couples.

“I also encourage lovers to respect relationships by sticking to one partner and enjoy the beauty of true love. I know my fans will love it,” said the husky-voiced chanter.

On the song, “Stamina”, Tony D vows to work harder musically and reach international standards.

“I want to take music seriously by releasing more good tracks, staging live shows countrywide and working in unison with other established dancehall musicians in the country.

“I am confident of my future in the music industry and I am grateful for the support I have been getting from my fans locally and abroad,” added the Dancehall Greatest Records founder.

The singer recently established a studio in Ngezi, which is expected to be fully functional later this year.

He revealed that he will release his second album in June. Prominent dancehall and hip-hop artistes will feature on the forthcoming project.

“Ambulance”, “Mukana”, “Waenda”, “Nguva Yasvika”, “Never Doubt” and “Chimoko” are some of his all-time hits.
