CHIPINGE-based Castle Lager Premiership debutants Green Fuel chairman Fredson Moyo believes that it is early days yet for football pundits to think his side will have a hi-and-bye affair to topflight league football.
Green Fuel were promoted into the Castle Lager Premiership league via an Eastern Region ticket after a fine run that saw the then Lloyd Mutasa coached outfit finishing the season without tasting defeat.
Boys DzeNharo or the Ethanol Boys, as they are fondly referred to by their fans in the lowveld part of Manicaland province, are yet to collect maximum points in their topflight debut season after three rounds of league matches.
The Bekithemba Ndlovu-coached outfit plunged into the Premiership football battles with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Yadah before they held Herentals to a 1-1 stalemate in the second round of league matches.
On Sunday, Green Fuel were literally annihilated when Hwange ran riot with a 3-0 drubbing at Luveve Stadium.
Technically, this means Green Fuel only have one goal and one point to show for more than 270 minutes of open play.
By any standards, this should be a worrisome trend for a serious club that intends to enjoy a longer life among the big boys of domestic football. But their chairman, Moyo, thinks it is too early to press the panic button yet.
Moyo acknowledges that the results that his team has been getting are not pleasing.
“Yes, it is true that the results are not pleasing at all. We are concerned about the failure to collect maximum points in our first three matches.
“While we are worried and exhausting all channels to ensure we get better results, we feel it is too early to press the panic button. We still have a long way to go in the season and we have no doubt in our minds that we will pick ourselves up.
“In any case, it would not make sense for anyone to talk about who will be relegated and who will win the championship so early in the season. As a team, we have our targets and we still remain confident to achieve that,” said the Green Fuel boss.
The man who led the side to promotion, Lloyd “Samaita” Mutasa, recently stepped down as the Green Fuel head coach to take a new post at the club.
Mutasa, who won promotion in the Eastern Region Division One championship, is now the PSL new comers’ technical director.
Former Highlanders assistant coach Bhekithemba Ndlovu took over the reins as the head coach.
