MILTON Zawe was crowned the Tryssups Zimbabwe Novice Body-building Championships champion at the Zimbabwe Music of College on Saturday.

The event was organised by Tryssups Zimbabwe and the National Federation of Zimbabwe Body-building and Fitness and it saw 60 novice body-builders from across the country taking part.

But it was Zawe, who came out tops in the senior men’s body-building category ahead of Denzel Ngwerume and Clemence Chikerema, who came second and third respectively.

The Fitness First Gym hulk said the success will push him to continue working hard as he now targets to compete at international level.

“It’s a dream come true and with the hard work and time I put in it, I had all the belief that it was my year to conquer the sport.

“I will keep working hard as there are so many competitions lined up that include the Harare Classic and other national competitions coming up.

“I believe that if I continue to be humble and work hard, this might be my season to conquer the sport and possibly launch my career on an international level,” said Zawe.

In the Men’s Physique category Duan Jentas of Oxygen Gym clinched the title ahead of Ngonidzashe Marange and Haare Gonzo who settled for the second and third places.

Harare-based Malcom Dzvuke was crowned the Men’s Fitness champion ahead of Bulawayo-based Deneth Maziwandile and Agrippah Kuwasekerera who occupied the second and third places.

Raylton Gym’s Prince Moyo emerged victorious in the junior men’s body-building ahead of Darly Njabulo and Tinotenda Mutanha.

In the Women’s Development category, Camilla Potgifter of Shape your Shass came first ahead of Brooke Cuthbert of the same stable.

Event organiser Tryssups Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer Tinotenda Ryan Gumbo was impressed by the turnout and level of competition. He also promised to make it an annual event.

“We were surprised by the number of athletes who turned up for the competition and it shows that the sport is growing in the country. So as Trysupps Zimbabwe, we will continue to contribute towards the development of the sport. It is our hope that we will be able to produce top athletes that will represent our country on an international level,” said Gumbo. The body-building federation’s secretary-general Quiet Shangai said it will be their top priority to nurture the new athletes in the sport.

“The athletes turned up and performed beyond our expectations. As an association, we are pleased that the sport is growing and more athletes are joining the sport. We would like to continue working tirelessly to ensure that we retain our new athletes. So we will continue to nurture them and provide them with the necessary knowledge and skills that will keep them motivated,” said Shangai.
