A NKULUMANE woman is lucky to be alive after her husband allegedly turned their home into a war zone — attacking her with a toolbox and beating her senseless in front of her sister!
The accused, Sam Sabelo Sibanda (37), appeared before Western Commonage regional magistrate Mrs Sibongile Marondedze, facing charges of domestic violence after the terrifying ordeal that left his wife, Ms Nomagugu Dube, battered and bruised.
The alleged assault took place on 20 March around 7 PM, turning what should’ve been a quiet evening into a night of horror.
Prosecutor Ms Christina Manyika told the court that Sibanda arrived home drunk and aggressive — and all hell broke loose when his wife questioned his drinking habits.
“He started shouting at Ms Dube, and when she asked him if he was still drinking alcohol, he snapped,” said Ms Manyika.
SNAP HE DID!
In a fit of rage, Sibanda allegedly picked up a toolbox and smashed her on the chest, before unleashing a barrage of blows.
“He went on to assault her until she was no longer able to defend herself. In the process, the complainant’s phone got damaged,” Ms Manyika added.
Mrs Dube suffered a swollen back and arm from the violent beatdown, and her family says she’s still shaken by the ordeal.
Sibanda has not yet entered a formal plea and was remanded in custody to 25 April for trial. The court is expected to determine whether his outburst was premeditated or fuelled purely by alcohol and anger.
