Top banker joins Econet board

independent director to join the board of Zimbabwe’s largest telecommunications provider in the last two months.

This follows the appointment of the company’s new chairman, veteran American telecoms executive Dr James Myers, who has promised to refresh the board by bringing in more outside directors.

Mr Edge, who has lived in South Africa since 1995, was educated at Oxford University and has worked as an investment banker throughout most of his career.
In a statement, Dr Myers said:  “I am very pleased that we have been able to persuade Martin Edge to join our board.

“He is a vastly experienced director who knows the African telecoms space backwards. I believe his inclusion will greatly strengthen the board.”
Other directors of the company are Mr Strive Masiyiwa, Mrs Tracy Mpofu, Mr Craig Fitzgerald, Mrs Beatrice Mtetwa, Mr Godfrey Gomwe, Mrs Sherree Shereni, Mr Douglas Mboweni and Mr Kris Chirairo.
