GIANTS and Nust B men’s basketball clubs clash in what should be an exciting Bulawayo Basketball Association league match at Khanyisile Sports Centre tomorrow afternoon.

Defending champions Giants top the table with seven points from four games, while Nust B are third from bottom with five points from the same number of games.

Giants’ coach, Emmanuel Mukandi, is confident of victory going into the fixture.

“The boys are ready for the game and confidence levels are high in camp, so we expect to put up a brilliant performance on the court. We go into game expecting victory to extend our lead at the top of the table,” said Mukandi.

Giants will be without key player Derick Chiradza, who suffered a serious injury in their 51-37 victory over Highlanders two weeks ago. The champions will be hoping to cope with the absence of their playmaker to consolidate their position at the top of the log.

Mukandi says his charges’ title defence faces stiff opposition from Oilers and Southern Mavericks, who have been playing some impressive basketball this season.

Action in the league starts today with the battle of the varsities when Lupane State University face off with Nust A, who have had a tough start to the season, with two defeats in the three games they have played.

In the women’s category, Lakers Seniors, who are fresh from the Fiba Club Championships in Botswana, will square off with bottom placed LSU in what is expected to be a routine victory for Lakers. Southern Mavericks are in action tomorrow against second-placed Angels in a potential thriller.
