Top musclemen vie for Marondera Classic

THE Marondera Classic, a new event on the body building calendar, set to attract some of the top musclemen will be held in the town on September 27.
Founder of the event, Farai Verenga, said plans for the show were at an advanced stage with registration already underway.“We are getting very warm responses considering that this is the first time we are hosting such an event, participants have already started registering.

“And we have even managed to hook big names like the current reigning Iron Man Isaac “Sugar” Chimuchenga, who has expressed interest in being part of the show. Botswana-based body building Champion Chienderamwano has also indicated that he will be there as a guest poser.

“This is an open event so we are expecting many participants from all corners of the country to make the event bigger and more competitive,” he said.

Focus will be on proportion, mass density, muscularity, health, symmetry and presentation in the male category while for the females it won’t be just about muscularity but well toned bodies.

Contestants will be battling it out in five categories – the male fitness physique, female fitness physique, male body building, female body building and junior male body building.

Verenga said they had incorporated the female category to promote female participation in the sport.

“When I came up with the idea to host this classic I did so with gender balance in mind, I believe we have a lot of interested fit females who are denied the chance to showcase themselves as most contests normally feature males so I wanted to change that.

“I incorporated the female category to play my part in seeing the growth of women in body building,” he said.

The event is being backed by several sponsors including Dairibord, Country Framers, and Watershed.

The Minister of State for provincial affairs in Mashonaland East, Simba Mudarikwa, is also expected to chip in.

Pre-judging will be done on the day of the competition at 10am.
