BASKETBALL playing schools from all the seven districts of Manicaland Province will converge at Mutare Boys’ High School for this year’s edition of the exciting Top Schools Under-20 competition set for Monday and Tuesday.
Being hosted under the National Association of School Heads (NASH) Manicaland banner, schools from Mutare, Buhera, Chimanimani, Chipinge, Nyanga, Mutasa and Makoni districts will be battling it out for top honours.
The participants will include defending boys champions, Mutare Boys’ High School and the girls title holders, Kriste Mambo Girls’ High School.
District qualifiers were set to be completed by end of this week.
Former Mercenaries and national team player, Innocent ‘Stolz’ Sithole, who is now proprietor of Stolz Clothing Company, one of the sponsors of the event, confirmed that 10 teams will be taking part in the competition. Sithole thanked corporate partners who chipped in to ensure the success of the event.
“All is set for the competition. We are looking forward to have a total of 10 teams which include teams from all the districts of Manicaland as well as the defending champions.
“We have several companies that have come on board to help this cause. That includes Stolz Clothing, Manica Aqua and Hartzell Old Boys Association that answered the call to chip in and assist this event for it to be a success. We are still hoping to have one or two more corporates coming on board so that the event is a huge success,” said Sithole.
Hartzell Old Boys Association, who are currently constructing a basketball court in remote Buhera District, has run a number of projects, some of them inclined to the development of the game of basketball.
Sithole said: “This is a tournament that is meant for top basketball playing schools in Manicaland and in a way it is meant to develop the sport in the province.”
