ALL the top seeds booked their places in the semi-finals of the ITF Twenty Third Century Systems tennis tournament yesterday at Harare Sports Club.
Number one seed, Boy Westerhof from The Netherlands, had a real test when he battled to overcome number five seed Nicolaas Scholtz of South Africa as both sets went to a tie-breaker.
Another Dutchman Antal Van Der Duim beat Gregoirre Barrere of France in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.
Van Der Duim, the second seed, has been impressive as he brushed off all his opponents in straight sets. He is the one who ended the dreams of Zimbabwe’s top-ranked player Mark Fynn in the second round.
South Africa’s Ruan Reolofse, seeded fourth, cruised to a straight sets 6-2, 6-3 win against Arthur Surreaux, who was the seventh seed.
Surreaux’s eleven double faults proved costly.
Veteran, Oscar Perez Hernandez, lost 6-7, 0-6 to Tucker Vorster, who is seeded third.
In the first doubles semifinals, the Dutch duo of Van Der Duim and Westerhof proved superior to the South Africans, Reolofse and Keith-Patrick, thrashing them 6-3, 7-6.
