THE Bulawayo Basketball Association (BBA) league is set to enter Cycle Seven on a high note with a clash of the top teams in the men’s category when Southern Mavericks lock horns with Giants at Khanyisile Sports Centre today.

Both teams are hoping to continue with their fine forms as they have never lost a single match in the league.

Mavericks top the league table with 12 points having played six games while their nearest rivals Giants have 10 points from five matches.

Mavericks coach Joe Mujuru believes his charges are ready for the big challenge.

“We have been preparing for this match since last year because they are a really strong team. The team cut short their holiday just to prepare for the second half of the season so I think that shows how much we are prepared for this match. The last time we played against Giants we won but that is not a reflection of what tomorrow’s (today) game will be. The pressure is on them not us as they are out to snatch the title which we have defended for three consecutive seasons,” he said.

Mujuru also said fans should expect surprise changes in the team as they have made some adjustments during the break.

“Fans are in for a few surprises in this game. We made some changes here and there during the break which saw some players coming from South Africa to join us. We also have our player who joined Giants so we are looking forward to an exciting encounter,” said Mujuru.

Mavericks beefed their squad with the South Africa-based duo of Tawona Mawere and Garth Hussey after losing Norman Chimutanda to Giants during the break.

In the women category, Lakers Seniors are topping the table with 13 points from seven games followed by Southern Mavericks with 12 points from six matches.

Lakers Juniors are third with nine points from six matches.

Southern Mavericks (women) will face-off with seventh placed Divas while Lakers Juniors will clash with Lupane State University (LSU) ladies.

Saturday fixtures:

Men: Giants v Southern Mavericks (7:30PM), Ostrich v Nust (6PM), City Knights v LSU (4:30PM)

Women: LSU v Lakers Juniors (12PM), Angels v Highlanders (1:30PM), Southern Mavericks v Divas (3PM)
