HARARE – One of Zimbabwe`s biggest fuel distributors, Total Zimbabwe, says it plans to convert to solar about 45 service stations in Zimbabwe as part of the company’s short-term renewable energy projects.
Addressing the media recently total Zimbabwe managing director Ronan Bescond said the project is part of the Total group`s initiative to solarize 5 000 stations in the next three years.
“Total is one of the leading solar companies in the world involved in manufacturing equipment which include sunpower panels, batteries (SAFT), building and operating solar plants (Total Eren and Total solar) and distributing renewable energy.
“In the short-term Total Zimbabwe intends to solarize 45 service stations in the country as part of the total group`s initiative to use solar at 5 000 stations by 2021,” he said
Mr Bescond revealed that the company has plans of making investments in solar projects around Zimbabwe.
“In parallel, Total solar companies are investigating opportunities into solar farms in Zimbabwe.”
Meanwhile, the fuel distributor also highlighted that the awaiting approvals from the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory authority for the introduction of Diesel excellium which is a new additive.
“Diesel excellium has not yet been released to the Zimbabwean market. We are still awaiting ZERA approval and once that is done we will launch it in the market.
“Diesel excellium is a new quality diesel additive, aimed at protecting the engine while on the road. It is sustainable for all vehicle types, both old and new, this range of additive enhanced fuel is designed to keep the engines clean over time in order to maintain their efficiency,” said Mr Bescond
