Tough reunion for Shandirwa

CAPS United midfielder, Tanaka Shandirwa returned to training yesterday ahead of their must win fixture against Yadah on Sunday.

Shandirwa sustained an ankle injury against Bikita Minerals which forced him to watch from the stands when the Green Machine stumbled on the first round of the Chibuku Super Cup against MWOS on Saturday.

This was probably CAPS United’s worst game of the campaign as they appeared lifeless and it coincided with Shandirwa’s absence who has been enjoying a fine run.

Shandirwa has never played against Yadah since leaving the club that unearthed him in the 2021 campaign.

In the two seasons that he spent with Dynamos, there was a clause on his loan deal that restricted him from playing against the Miracle Boys. Shandirwa was ruled out of Makepekepe’s clash against Yadah  in the reverse fixture due to suspension.

But, he is likely going to play against the team that breathed life into his career for the first time on Sunday.

Shandirwa has not had a say against Yadah in three seasons.

CAPS United are just three points above the red zone and they have registered just a win in their last six games.

Shandirwa told this publication that it will be an emotional reunion.

“I’m happy to be back, injuries are part of the game and I’m happy to be back. I don’t know how it feels like to play against Yadah as it will be my first time. Yadah played a big role in my career and for that I’m forever grateful,” said Shandirwa.

“We are not in a good position on the league table, but we have been trying our best and this will be another chance for us to get a positive result for our fans.

“We want to make our fans proud in the last 10 games because they have been supportive and we appreciate their efforts.”

Yadah are three points behind CAPS United and a win will be a massive boost in their bid to dodge relegation.

Makepekepe also have defender, Brian Kadamanja who started his career at Yadah four seasons ago.

Yadah also have former CAPS United captain, William Manando who joined the Miracle Boys last month from Simba Bhora.
