FORMER Highlanders head coach Bongani Mafu seems to be finding the going tough in the Botswana Premier League as he is yet to register a win at his new club Mochudi Centre Chiefs, four games into the season.
Mafu, who was fired from Highlanders after a string of poor results last season before joining Tsholotsho as assistant coach to Lizwe Sweswe, has led the 2014/15 league champions to three draws and one defeat in four matches and they trail log leaders Township Rollers by five points.
At Highlanders, Mafu managed two wins, a draw and an opening round defeat in his first four matches in charge.
Mochudi Centre Chiefs, once a feared side that won back-to-back league titles under the legendary Madinda Ndlovu, are now among the early season relegation candidates unless the highly qualified Mafu summons all his tactical and technical willpower.
He will probably say it’s early days, but the Batswana are well known for their impatience.
Mochudi Centre Chiefs, who were runners-up last season, managed a 0-0 draw against 10-man Security Systems in their previous league match. Security Systems were playing their second match within 48 hours in violation of standing Fifa statutes.
Mochudi Centre Chiefs are likely to boost their squad in the January transfers window, with Mafu telling the Botswana press recently that his young strike force needs an experienced striker to lead them.
