Tourism awards postponed again

Initially, the event was slated for 13 December in Harare but the date was changed to 21 December due to a technical glitch that saw stakeholders not being able to send nomination forms through the Internet platform.

ZTA head of public relations and corporate communications Mr Sugar Chagonda confirmed to Business Chronicle that the event had been postponed again but could not be drawn into giving the details.

“The event has been postponed but we are yet to be briefed with regards to the postponement,” he said.

The National Tourism Awards are organised by ZTA annually to honour the country’s leading organisations and personalities for their role in promoting growth and development of the country’s tourism industry.

The awards are held with the ultimate aim of promoting healthy competition in the tourism sector for sustainable development.

For corporate awards, companies and institutions will be honoured in areas that include investment and product development, maintenance of consistent high quality service and standards as well as contribution to destination marketing.

On the individual awards luminaries will be honoured in categories such as Tourism Manager of the year, tourism image builder of the year, tourism entrepreneur of the year, tourism personality of the year, tourism reporter of the year-print, tourism reporter of the year-electronic, and the tourism reporter of the year-online.

The individual awards will encompass the special recognition honour where the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Engineer Walter Mzembi chooses between one and three tourism personalities or entities and recognises their distinguished services and contribution in the tourism industry.

There is also the patron’s award where the tourism patron independently chooses a tourism personality or entity and recognises their distinguished services and contribution in the tourism industry.
