MASVINGO Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Ezra Chadzamira says tourism is central to the province’s economic development strategy, with Government using devolution to retain tourism revenue locally, attract investment and create jobs.
Speaking at the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Dzimbahwe 2026 Gastronomy and Music Carnival in Masvingo on Saturday, Minister Chadzamira said the province was positioning tourism as a driver of inclusive economic growth.
“Tourism is a key economic pillar for Masvingo Province,” Chadzamira said.
“Through devolution and inter-governmental collaboration, we are ensuring that tourism receipts are retained locally, that infrastructure is upgraded, and that communities benefit directly.
“This is how we complement Vision 2030 at the provincial level,” he added.
He said Government was working with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, local authorities and private sector operators to upgrade tourism infrastructure, improve service standards and strengthen destination management to support increased investment and visitor arrivals.
Minister Chadzamira said gastronomy and cultural tourism could also expand local value chains by creating markets for farmers, food producers, creatives and community-based enterprises.
“Masvingo is home to the iconic Great Zimbabwe National Monument from which our nation derives its proud name Zimbabwe,” Chadzamira said.
He said the province’s attractions, including Lake Mutirikwi, Tugwi-Mukosi and Gonarezhou National Park, offered opportunities for sustainable investment and community participation in the tourism economy.
