In an interview, ZTA head of public relations and corporate communications Mr Sugar Chagonda said the event, which was a tourism night would be held at Victoria Falls Primary School on 29 December.
“We are organising the event so that stakeholders in the tourism industry including tourists can celebrate and enjoy through music the growth and development of the sector. We want them to enjoy tourism through music and dance,” he said.
The tourism sector has been identified as one of the key economic enablers with a significant contribution to the Gross Domestic Product.
Mr Chagonda said preparations for the tourism night were going on well.
“The event will bring together Zimbabwe’s finest musicians such as Alick Macheso, Winky D, Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave, Sandra Ndebele, Sulumani Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah and Mbare Chimurenga Choir.”
He said the event would be free of charge to ensure that tourism was celebrated by everyone.
Mr Chagonda said the event was a perfect opportunity in view of ZTA as the country prepares to host the United Nations World Tourism General Assembly in Victoria Falls in August next year.
He said following the launch of the UNWTO general assembly countdown in the resort town recently, ZTA chief executive officer Mr Karikoga Kaseke announced that an event such as the forthcoming tourism night would be to celebrate the growth of the industry.
“Through the tourism night, as a country we will be able to showcase our diverse culture to tourists who will grace the occasion.
“The event is a perfect opportunity as we prepare for the UNWTO general assembly,” he said.
Last year, Zimbabwe and Zambia won the bid to co-host the world’s largest tourism summit in Victoria Falls and Livingstone in Zambia.
