Tourist commits suicide

The tourist believed to be in his early 60s  is believed to have taken his life on Friday  evening.
Police confirmed the incident but said personal details of the tourist would only be revealed when they have completed investigations.

Chronicle visited the Rest Camp and Lodges at about 1pm on Sunday and found the police taking away the body of the tourist from the chalet in a metal coffin to Victoria Falls District hospital mortuary.
Scores of tourists and members of staff were milling around the chalet in shock.

Sources at the camp said the body of the  tourist was discovered by staff members from the housekeeping department who wanted to clean the chalet.
The source said on opening the door of the chalet, the cleaner was met by a strong smell.

“First, the cleaner looked for keys to the chalet but could not find them since every guest  is supposed to leave behind the keys at the reception when going out. So the cleaner used a spare key and was only met by the stench and then saw the body hanging from the roof,” said the source.

He said it was then discovered that the man was last seen around the camp on Friday and nobody saw him or saw the keys to the chalet ever since.
“So the guy could have hanged himself on Friday evening and because of the hot weather we are experiencing, the body had started decomposing,” said the source.
