THE lawlessness that had become rampant at bus termini, ranks and on the streets of Mutare is being quelled as law enforcement agents are arresting more touts by the day, police have said.
Police in the city have since Monday been carrying out a clampdown targeting rank marshals who had become notorious for harassing travelers and commuters as well as terrorising vendors.
By yesterday, a total of 93 touts had been arrested; with 36 being netted yesterday.
Acting Manicland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the arrests, saying they are part of the ongoing exercise to root out touting.
“We are not relenting on the clampdown on touts. Law enforcement are presently on top of the situation as we continue making more arrests. We arrested 36 touts yesterday after rounding up 57 when the exercise started on Monday,” he said.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said they held other sensitisation exercises across the city this afternoon to drive the message home about the need to uphold law and order at all times when conducting their business.
