TWO well-known Gwanda touts who are in the habit of engaging in public spats, have been ordered by the Civil Court to live peacefully without insulting, threatening or assaulting each other.
Clement Ncube, 35, had made an application for a peace order against a colleague, Martin Dube. Ncube said that he was tired of being threatened, harassed and insulted by Dube in public.
He said the threats and insults were demeaning him.
“The respondent is making my life quite difficult and I can’t take it anymore. He interferes with our work every time because he knows we’re afraid of him. I’m here at the court today so that I can be protected from him. I’m afraid of Dube,” said Ncube.
He said their ‘touting’ business had become a nightmare because of interference from Dube who caused disorder at the commuter omnibus rank.
“He just comes to disrupt our operations even when he isn’t the one on duty. He causes a lot of disorder,” Ncube said.
However, Dube denied ever insulting, threatening or assaulting Ncube but instead shifted the blame on his colleague.
He said Ncube was lying by claiming that he was afraid of him.
Dube said Ncube had been harassing him lately because he knew that he (Dube) was given a suspended sentence when he was convicted of assault at the criminal courts.
He argued that Ncube knew that if he hit back at him, he would end up in prison.
“I don’t want to end up imprisoned again. The applicant provokes me hoping that I will fight back, but I will never do that. I have a family to look after but he keeps harassing, threatening and insulting me. At one time he held me by the collar,” Dube said.
Magistrate Arafat Kodzanai granted the two reciprocal peace orders and ordered them not to insult assault or threaten each other.
Last week, Dube dragged Ncube to the criminal court for assaulting him. Ncube paid a fine of $200 after being convicted of assaulting Dube.
