BEAVAN Gwamure became the first coach to be shown the exit after he was axed by Beitbridge municipality outfit, Town United following a string of poor results. The final straw was the 0-2 defeat at the hands of NM Academy which saw the club management relieving him of his duties.Former Amazulu defender, Vorster Chitemu sat on the bench in the rescheduled midweek fixture against  Tongogara at Dulibadzimu which ended as a one-all stalemate. The club has since roped in former Shabanie Mine and FC Platinum gaffer John Phiri to take on the reins until the end of the season.

Phiri whose first assignment will be a home game against Kwekwe Pirates confirmed the appointment and said his mission is to finish in the top four and build a strong team to fight for promotion next season.

“It is true that I have been appointed the Town United head coach and I am already in Beitbridge where I have assumed my duties. My mission this season is very clear that is to finish in the top four so that we challenge for honours next season but if anything happens during the course of the season we might as well run away with the championship, I have already identified new players some of them with Premiership experience which I am taking to the club to help bolster the team,” said Phiri.

The former Shabanie Mine player guided the Chinda Boys back in the Premiership in 2009 after winning the Zifa Southern Region Division One League before falling out of favour with the club management the following season which saw current head coach Luke Masomere assuming the reins.

The former Shabanie Mine midfielder, however, found sanctuary at Shabanie Mine neighbours FC Platinum where he was assistant coach to the late Benjamin Moyo before he was asked to take charge of the team’s developmental side FC Platinum Under 19.
FC Platinum subsequently fired Phiri after he was accused of allegedly undermining the cause of the club.
