Chapungu coach Tom Ruzive had his wings clipped after the airmen roped in John Nyikadzino to the post of technical advisor who will be in charge of team selection while former Zimalloys gaffer, Beavan Gwamure, has assumed duty on an interim basis at the border town outfit following the sacking of Mudyambanje.
Nyikadzino becomes the fourth coach inside two seasons to take charge of the airmen after Innocent Chogugudza was fired after a string of draws midway through last season’s campaign.
The former Chapungu goalminder was replaced by MSU assistant coach Joseph Michaels whose contract was not renewed at the beginning of the season paving way for Ruzive who has also failed to stand the heat at Waru Waru.
The firing of the former Highlanders hitman, Mudyambanje, comes after Godfrey Tamirepi was relieved of his duties at Redcliff-based side, New Zimsteel, and was replaced by Robson Sibanda who previously was in charge of the now defunct Lancashire Steel.
Town United secretary Nkululeko Mbizi confirmed that the former Highlanders striker was no longer with the team as management did not renew his three- month contract.
“Mudyambanje was on three months probation which expired on 30 June and so the executive did not wish to renew his contract. The executive has enlisted the services of Beavan Gwamure to take charge of the last three games before the mid-season break and thereafter a substantive coach will be announced,” said Mbizi.
Gwamure’s first game in charge will be a Beitbridge derby when the municipal side takes on FC Strikers at Dulibadzimu tomorrow.
Contacted for comment, Chapungu chairman Hillary Jona confirmed the latest developments before referring further questions to Artwell Moyo an executive member of Chapungu whose mobile phone was not reachable. “Ruzive is still the coach but we have roped in Nyikadzino as technical adviser to bolster our coaching department but you can contact Artwell Moyo to give you more details because right now I am in Harare,” Jona said.
Ruzive also acknowledged the latest set up while Mudyambanje refused to comment referring all questions to the Town United executive.
