Town United upset Chapungu

LOG leaders Chapungu’s 24-match unbeaten run ended  at the weekend when they were edged 1-2 at home by second placed Town United in a Zifa Central Soccer League match played at Ascot Stadium. After completing a double over Chapungu last season, the border town side this year took four points from “Waru Waru” with the first leg ending in a one-all stalemate. These statistics confirm that Town United dominate Chapungu.

The result also reduced the gap between the log leaders and second placed Town United to just seven points with just five rounds of matches to go.

With the airmen assured of maximum points from Gwanda Ramblers and Tripple B Academy who have been expelled from the league, they just need six points from the other three matches to be confirmed champions.

However, Saturday’s result gave the border town side a glimmer of hope.
“This is the kind of result that we wanted because we want the championship race to go to the wire. The championship is no longer in our hands but with football you never know what will happen.

“I am confident that after showing that Chapungu can be beaten, other teams will do us a favour,” said Town United coach John Phiri.
His counterpart, John Nyikadzino conceded defeat and said that his side will have to regroup and post a positive result in the next game to get their championship campaign back on track.

The defeat by Town United comes after Chapungu were held to a 1-1 draw by lowly placed Mvuma side, NM Academy.
